The weather forecasters are currently predicting light snow for Monday 28 and Wednesday 30 January. Please be reassured that we will treat essential walkways before normal arrival time on Monday morning to ensure safe access on campus.

Weather Update: January 2019

The College's intention is always for its buildings to remain open in adverse weather conditions and during unplanned events such as transport strikes. Our facilities teams are fully equipped to ensure the college's campuses are safe and all access areas are cleared of snow/ice and gritted.

Before the sites are fully opened our Health and Safety team will check the premises and the temperature of the building.  Should there be snow fall, you can check the website for updates.  If there is disruption to transport services it can mean some staff cannot make it in to college.  In such cases we have a prepared timetable of activities for students.

For students

We understand that some students will find it difficult to get to college if there are severe disruptions to the transport system and parents and carers should make that judgement especially if there is a health and safety concern. In this case students should make use of the resources on eMe plus other assignments and tasks set to study at home.

For staff

During extreme weather, all staff are expected to make every effort to come to work as usual. If one campus is closed, all staff who normally work there are expected to attend work at whichever campus is most convenient.

If staff are unable to come into work, they should:

•           Notify their line manager by 8.30am and discuss any implications of their absence.

•           Discuss with their line manager how any missed days will be made up. This could be: taking a day’s leave, working from home in agreement with their line manager or agreeing with their line manager how teaching hours / work will be made up.

Staff who live in areas where there is predicted to be a significant amount of snow or who live a long way from the College should agree with their line manager arrangements so that they can get home safely at the end of the working day, and this may mean leaving work early.

Deteriorating conditions during the college day

Should conditions begin to deteriorate during the College day, a decision to send students home earlier to take account of public transport issues will be taken in consultation with TfL.
