Five years have made a big difference for Edwin Munoz. Having started at Lewisham Southwark College as an ESOL learner in 2013, he now works as a digital media technician at the College. In his current role, he works with independent artists to create music videos and collaborates with small and medium-sized production companies as a cinematographer – a career Edwin hadn’t even considered five years ago.
He explains: “I started at the College as an ESOL student. My main interest at that time was Photoshop and one of my ESOL teachers encouraged me to apply for a digital media course.”
Edwin progressed on to the Level 2 Digital Media course, and was taught by Natalie Garner, who he describes as a “coach” who provided him with valuable guidance to help him achieve the most.
“The course provided me with the perfect platform to satisfy my hunger for exploring new avenues and possibilities in digital media,” he says. “Having peers with the same mindset made it easier to get fresh perspectives on how to do things and enabled me to learn different skills.”
Now managed by his former tutor, Edwin gets to spend his working days focusing on an area that fascinates him, while in his spare time he explores another creative passion: taking photographs from high altitudes.
