This course is a stepping stone towards an exciting creative career. The programme is divided into three parts: the exploratory stage is delivered by practical workshops and short intense projects; the pathway stage gives room for more personal development within longer projects; and the confirmatory stage focuses on one major project which students decide and plan with their course tutors. Skills for Life subjects mathematics and English are embedded within the course programme, structured so that they assist the student's development and professional arts practice.

Assessment throughout the course will be formative to support and encourage learning and provide an opportunity for feedback. Only the final unit will be graded to allow students the best opportunity to achieve. The final unit requires you to research, organise, plan, produce and present a personal project, and your achievement in this final unit determines the overall grade for the qualification.
The course equips you to progress to Higher Education onto a Degree programme.
When you're deciding what to study post-16, it's important to think about where your course will lead. As a trained artist or designer you'll be starting on a career path with loads of opportunity for progression ? and a good salary in your sights. For example: Artists start on around £16,000 a year and can earn £20,000 with 3-5 years' experience Graphic designers start on around £21,000 a year and can earn £28,000 with 3-5 years' experience
If you're interested in a career in the art and design industry, we offer a diverse range of vocational courses that will help you get where you want to go. Aimed at training students in their chosen discipline, our courses include valuable work experience opportunities and the chance to exhibit your work, preparing you for your first role in the industry.
- 4 GCSEs A*-C / or 9-4 (in 2017 GCSEs)
- Relevant Level 2 qualification with Merit or above
- Relevant industry experience to Level 2 or above
You will have access to a dedicated base studio, facilities for screen-printing, darkroom and Art shop. We also encourage students to work across disciplines with our Media and Fashion students to create exciting projects.
