Overview

This course offers a combination of skills required to work within the Make-up and Beauty industry. Consisting of facial, skincare, the use of skin camouflage, eye enhancement (tinting, shaping and lashes) and make-up application techniques. Also including employability skills such as personal and professional development, customer service, retail, health & safety in the salon and the skills required to instruct clients in the use and application of skin care products and make up products. This course has been specifically designed to enable you to learn both aspects of Beauty Therapy and make up techniques so that you can broaden employment options in the beauty industry and specialise in make up artistry. You will achieve a qualification accredited by the awarding body VTCT. You will also attain certificates to add to your CV for enrichment workshops delivered by external companies popular to the Make-up and Beauty industry such as Eve Taylor product knowledge, Airbase make-up, Mac and FX lash effects. English and maths qualifications are a requirement for most jobs and it is important that you are able to demonstrate your ability in these areas. If you do not already have a grade C or above in GCSE English and maths you will automatically undertake further study in these subjects as part of your study programme.

Aims of the course

This course will give you the training you need to become a practising Beauty Therapist specialising in make-up techniques or a make-up artist.

  • Facials and skincare
  • The use of skin camouflage

A weekly tutorial allows you and your tutor to develop individual learning plans that will assist in learning and in developing responsibility for your own learning.

Assessment Method

You will be assessed through practical assessments and by building a portfolio of work throughout the year. You will be using e-portfolios and will be trained how to use the latest technology to manage your portfolio. Regular reports on progress are provided to parents/guardians of students aged under 19 years. The programme is unit based and is delivered individually at different stages throughout the course. You will be assessed when you feel you are competent. There are three areas of assessment:

  • Practical observation: you carry out the skill on clients
