An in-depth understanding of professional pedicure techniques is a prerequisite to becoming a successful nail technician. This pedicure course will equip students with the necessary skills to offer their clients specialised pedicure treatments. You will gain an understanding of health and safety in the salon and learn how to provide a full consultation to your clients. The theoretical aspects of this course include the underpinning knowledge relating to specialised pedicure treatments and the relevant anatomy and physiology. You will achieve a qualification accredited by the awarding body VTCT.
Aims of the course
To enable beauty therapists to carry out professional specialised pedicure treatments as an add-on skill, or for beginners interested in foot and nail treatments.
This qualification is about providing pedicure services to clients. It covers consulting with the client, recognising any contra-indications, preparing for the service and producing a service plan. It also covers filing and buffing the nails, using specialised skin products and cuticle treatments, massaging the hand and lower arm and providing a suitable nail finish.
There are three methods of assessment:
Practical observation: you will carry out the skill on clients
Oral: you will answer questions on your underpinning knowledge of the skill
Written: you will complete an assignment and two online exams
This short course may enhance your current skills and qualifications or may introduce you to the world of beauty therapy leading to progression on to a level 1 introduction to beauty therapy course or a level 2 pathway to commercial salons course.

As a qualified beauty therapist you'll be starting on a career path with the opportunity to progress and earn a good salary ? whether you work for a salon or spa, or decide to set up on your own. For example:
Beauty therapists start on around £14,000 a year and can earn £16,000 with a few years' experience
Beauty salon managers earn an average of £27,000

You'll learn a variety of beauty techniques as well as gaining business training and the chance to participate in industry-recognised competitions ? preparing you for your first role in this exciting industry.
You will meet with staff to discuss whether this course is suitable for you, and complete a free writing task to ensure you have an appropriate level of English ability.
Our Department of Beauty Therapy includes three practice salons, a make up studio and theory classrooms.
Practical skills are delivered by highly trained and experienced industry experts using tools and products recognised in the industry in our fully equipped salons. Our skilled teaching staff will utilise technology such as iPads and television viewing screens to support practical learning ensuring that you can view demonstrations and close up shots as many times as you need to during your practice. You will be able to gain real-life experience working on clients at the T'ien salon.
