Overview

This course is a single unit award qualification about applying, maintaining and removing LED gel polish products to the nails.

This qualification aims to enable you to enhance the range of services and techniques offered to nail service clients. It also covers the skills and knowledge required to prepare for the service and maintain effective health, safety and hygiene working practices throughout the treatment. You will achieve a qualification accredited by the awarding body VTCT.

Aims of the course

To enable you to carry out professional gel polish techniques as an add-on skill or for beginners interested in hand and nail treatments.

Unit Breakdown

The aim of this unit is to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills in applying, maintaining and removing LED Gel polish. You will learn how to recognise contra-indications, prepare for service and produce a treatment plan whilst maintaining effective health, safety and hygiene working practice for nail technicians/therapists. You will also learn about the anatomy and physiology of the skin and nails.

Assessment Method

There are three methods of assessment:

Practical observation: you will carry out the skill on clients

Oral: you will answer questions on your underpinning knowledge of the skill

Written: you will complete an assignment.

Progression Opportunities

This short course may enhance your current skills and qualifications or may introduce you to the world of beauty therapy leading to progression on to a level 1 introduction to beauty therapy course or a level 2 pathway to commercial salons course.

For example:

Beauty therapists start on around £14,000 a year and can earn £16,000 with a few years' experience

Beauty salon managers earn an average of £27,000

You will meet with staff to discuss whether this course is suitable for you, and complete a free writing task to ensure you have an appropriate level of English ability.

Facilities

Our Department of Beauty Therapy includes three practice salons, a make up studio and theory classrooms.

Practical skills are delivered by highly trained and experienced industry experts using tools and products recognised in the industry in our fully equipped salons. Our skilled teaching staff will utilise technology such as iPads and television viewing screens to support practical learning ensuring that you can view demonstrations and close up shots as many times as you need to during your practice. You will be able to gain real-life experience working on clients at the T'ien salon.
