From 2016, changes in legal and regulatory body requirements will mean that beauty therapists carrying out IPL or LASER treatments will require a level 4 qualification in these specialist treatments (also acknowledged by insurance companies).
This course builds on existing knowledge and understanding of therapy skills and will develop an enhanced repertoire of technical skills to prepare you for employment. The course includes the skills involved in providing a thorough consultation with the client to formulate a specific course of treatment, tailored to suit individual needs, use laser/IPL treatments for skin rejuvenation and hair removal and to manage the health, safety and security of the salon.
You will be awarded with a VTCT accredited qualification on completion of the course
Aims of the course
This course will enable you to promote yourself as an advanced therapist providing safe and professional laser/IPL treatments for hair removal and skin rejuvenation.
Units included in the Level 4 Certificate in LASER/IPL treatments:
Client care & communication in beauty related industries.
Management of health, safety and security in the salon.
LASER/IPL treatments for hair removal.
LASER/IPL treatments for skin rejuvenation.
These units are all mandatory.
There are three methods of assessment:
Practical observation: you carry out the skill on clients
Oral: you answer questions on your underpinning knowledge of the skill
Written: You will carry out independent research and complete an assignment and online exams.
Further study qualifications could include:
-VTCT Level 4 award in physiology for Advanced Beauty Therapy (QCF)
-VTCT Level 4 Certificate in salon management (QCF)
-VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy (QCF)
-VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management (QCF)
What can I earn in the beauty industry?

As a qualified beauty therapist you'll be starting on a career path with the opportunity to progress and earn a good salary ? whether you work for a salon or spa, or decide to set up on your own. For example:
Beauty therapists start on around £14,000 a year and can earn £16,000 with a few years' experience
Beauty salon managers earn an average of £27,000
If you're inspired by the idea of a career in the beauty industry, we offer a wide range of vocational courses that will help you get where you want to go. You'll learn a variety of beauty techniques as well as gaining business training and the chance to participate in industry-recognised competitions ? preparing you for your first role in this exciting industry.
You will need to be qualified up to level 3 in Beauty Therapy (including electrotherapy or epilation).
You will meet with staff to discuss if this course is suitable for you and you will complete a free writing task that indicates an appropriate level of English ability.
Practical skills are delivered by highly trained and experienced industry experts using tools and products recognised in the industry in our fully equipped salons. Our skilled teaching staff will utilise technology such as iPads and television viewing screens to support practical learning ensuring that you can view demonstrations and close up shots as many times as you need to during your practice. You will be able to gain realistic experience working on clients that book in to visit the T'ien salon.
