This course suits those interested in Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals. It is a specialist vocational programme, linked to professional body and National Occupational Standards where appropriate. It offers strong, sector-related practical skills training alongside the development of key knowledge and understanding. The qualifications provide a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the sector, and national recognition by employers allows direct progression to employment.
Aims of the course
The aims of the qualification are to provide education and training for a range of careers in business such as management, administration, personnel, marketing, accounting, and law; to provide a general qualification which allows flexibility of study to meet local or specialist needs; and to provide specialist options which meet the needs of the major functions in business and allow specialisation with career progression and professional recognition in mind.
BTEC Level 4 HNC (Year 1) in Business is a qualification with a minimum of 120 credits of which 60 are mandatory core. Example of Units as below:

The assessment of Edexcel BTEC Higher National qualifications is criterion-referenced and the learners will be assessed with evidence against published learning outcomes and assessment criteria through portfolios, exams and practical work. All units will be individually graded as 'Pass', 'Merit' or 'Distinction'.
A key progression path for Edexcel BTEC HNC and HND learners is to the second or third year of a degree or honours degree programme, depending on the match of the Edexcel BTEC Higher National units to the degree programme in question. The Edexcel BTEC HNC and HND in Business offer a progression route to the professional qualifications offered by various professional bodies in the business sector.

GCSE English and GCSE mathematics at grades A*-C, plus a substantial Level 3 qualification in a related subject which adds up to 180 UCAS points.
