The Level 2 Culinary Skills qualifications will suit you if you have some basic skills and experience as a chef notably by passing the Level 1 Culinary Skills or by having relevant industrial experience.
The Level 2 Culinary Skills will help you gain a formal qualification and increase your skills so that you can take on a more senior role in the future
Aims of the course
The Culinary Skills qualifications can help you find a job as a:
Commis Chef / Chef De Partie
To achieve the Level 2 Diploma in Culinary Skills, learners must achieve a total of 46 credits.
36 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 10 credits from the optional units.
Health and safety in catering
Costs and menu planning relative to the units which are being delivered
Preparing and cooking different foods as indicated within City and Guilds guidelines
Preparing and cooking different pastry dishes (hot and cold desserts)
Observation and written questions
Subject to attendance and internal assessments, after taking the Level 2 qualification you could move on to:
Level 3 (NVQ) Professional Cookery (7133)
Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Professional Cookery (Kitchen & Larder) (7100)
Level 3 Diploma in Professional Patisserie and Confectionary (7120)
Work in the hospitality Industry as a Commis Chef / Chef de Partie
What can I earn as a chef?
When you're deciding what to study post-16, it's important to think about where your course will lead. As a qualified chef or catering professional you'll be starting on a career path with loads of opportunity for progression ? and a good salary in your sights. For example:
Chefs start on around £13,000 a year and can earn £17,000 with 3 years' experience
Restaurant managers start on around £15,000 year and can earn £22,000 with 3 years' experience

4 GCSEs D-F / or 3-2 (in 2017 GCSEs)
Relevant Level 1 qualification with Merit or above
Relevant industry experience to Level 1 or above
You will be provided with up to date kitchens including:
Cooking facilities which will enable you to have full access to ovens / ranges, grills, griddles and deep fat fryers, excellent worktop space with washing facilities (hand washing, food preparation and washing up), excellent Refrigeration space, and small and large equipment.
To enable you to pass the course you will provided with IT systems= e-me, Hodder Level 2 theory workshops and online assessment tracking facilities
The course will be delivered through practical kitchen classes with practice and assessments plus theory questions set by City and Guilds
