With the art of cake baking back in fashion thanks to 'The Great British Bake-Off', many people are rediscovering the huge satisfaction that comes from a beautifully light Victoria Sponge or a perfectly baked batch of scones. If you'd like to learn how to prepare these classic treats, this course is for you.

Delivered in our well-equipped pastry kitchen, this practical course will teach you the fundamentals of how to cook scones, cakes and biscuits from scratch to a high standard. By the end of the six-week course you will be able to make a range of delicious recipes with confidence. You will be awarded a College certificate when you complete the course.

Develop skills and knowledge over 6 weeks in the safe production of a variety of scones, cakes and biscuits.

What can I earn as a chef?

When you're deciding what to study post-16, it's important to think about where your course will lead. As a qualified chef or catering professional you'll be starting on a career path with loads of opportunity for progression ? and a good salary in your sights. For example:

Chefs start on around £13,000 a year and can earn £17,000 with 3 years' experience

Restaurant managers start on around £15,000 year and can earn £22,000 with 3 years' experience

Entry Requirements

A keen interest in developing knowledge and skills within a pastry kitchen. A good level of English and maths is a requirement in order to complete the course.


Professional pastry kitchen environment. The course will be delivered by professional chefs with a variety of industrial experience in 4* and 5* establishments.
