CONSTRUCTION

Overview

For people aiming for a career in dry lining, this course will help you progress towards your goal. It combines practical tasks with theoretical study. Specific units you will study include: Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction and Associated Industries; Knowledge of Technical Information, Quantities and Communication with others; and Knowledge of Construction Technology. You will also learn how to Install dry lining encasements, install dry lining partition and Metal Furring Ceiling Systems, finish dry lining joints, and apply a range of finish plasters to plasterboard backgrounds

To promote high quality learning that meets the demands of the construction industry.

Unit Breakdown

The learner will cover knowledge in three core subject areas:

- Health, safety and welfare

- Information, quantities and communication

- Construction technology.

The Learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in:

- Finish dry lining joints

- Install dry lining and encasements

- Install dry lining partition and metal firring ceiling systems

- Apply finishing plasters to plasterboard backgrounds

Assessment Method

Synoptic practical assessments and multiple online exams.

Progression Opportunities

This study programme can lead to a several different paths for further education in dry lining including apprenticeships.

Career Options

Potential job opportunities include self-employment, joining construction companies and working with local authority maintenance teams.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs D-F / or 3-2 (in 2017 GCSEs)

Relevant Level 1 qualification with Merit or above

Relevant industry experience to Level 1 or above

Facilities

The course is 20% theory (classroom based) and 80% practical (workshop based), plus a minimum of one week's work experience.
