The City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Electrical Installations aims to give learners who have no prior experience of the electro-technical industry, a foundation introduction to the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required for progression to the City & Guilds Level 2 qualification

Aims of the course

To give learners who have no prior experience of the electro-technical industry.

Unit Breakdown

The Level 1 course is built on the successful completion of seven units; Unit 101 - Structure of the construction industry Unit 102 - Fundamental safe working practices Unit 103 - Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings Unit 104 - Site preparation for working in the construction industry Unit 105 - Electrical installation wiring and terminations Unit 106 - Fabrication techniques for electrical installation* Unit 107 - Electrical science and technology

Assessment Method

The completion of a variety of written and practical assessments strategically planned during the academic year.

Progression Opportunities

This study programme can lead to a several different paths for further education in electrical industries, and potential job opportunities include self-employment, joining construction companies and working with local authority maintenance teams.

Career Options

Learners who successfully meet the criteria set out in assessments may progress to the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma Note that students require at least GCSE level 4 (grade C) in maths AND English to progress onto level 2 Electrical Installation. Level 1 students without this will need to obtain these GCSE's while undertaking the Level 1 Electrical Installation if they wish to progress to level 2 the following year.

Entry Requirements

GCSE maths AND English level 3 (grade D) or above.


The electrical courses are workshop and classroom based
