This full time programme offers an excellent introduction to dance training. You will develop your technical, performance and creative skills through daily classes in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz and Choreography. Alongside this you will learn about the performing arts industry including different job roles and organisations, as well as how to plan your ideal career path. Lastly you will have many opportunities to perform both in our 96 seat theatre and venues outside of college.
Aims of the course
The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to dance training, providing you with the skills and knowledge necessary for future progression within further education and the industry.
Unit 1 Introduction to Performance, Unit 2 Introduction to Production, Unit 3 Communicating With an Audience, Unit 4 Staging a Performance, Unit 5 Contextual Research for Performance, Unit 6 Performance Skills and Practice, Unit 7 Production Skills and Practice, Unit 8 Personal Project and Presentation, Unit 9 Producing and Performing to an Audience.
Unit 10 Producing and Performing to an Audience (Level 3) (0ptional)
You will be continually assessed throughout the year, units 1-9 of the UAL qualification. Units 1-8 are graded PASS, FAIL, REFERRAL, and unit 9 is graded PASS, MERIT, and DISTINCTION. Your assessment will be your performances, evaluation and reflective logbooks, research tasks, video diaries, and presentations.
On successful completion of the Level 2 Dance study programme, many of our students progress onto the UAL Level 3 Diploma in Dance.
On completion of this course it is advised to apply for a Level 3 Qualification in order to develop your skills further.
4 GCSEs D-F / or 3-2 (in 2017 GCSEs)
Relevant Level 1 qualification with Merit or above
Relevant industry experience to Level 1 or above
We have three large purpose-built dance studios fully equipped with sprung floors, mirrors, ballet barres and changing rooms, as well as a 92 seat in house theatre. The course is delivered via daily technique classes, creative sessions, rehearsals, tutorials, dance theory lessons, and performances both on and off site. Our students are given many enrichment opportunities throughout the year including theatre trips, performance opportunities, work experience and visits and performances from 3rd year students at Laban, London Contemporary Dance School and London Studio Centre.
