Overview

Explorer Programmes are offered by Pearson to give learners who are considering a sector-based course a realistic idea of what the sector will be like to work in. This includes the vast opportunities the sector will present but also the challenges. Explorer Programmes are available in a variety of sectors, including early years education and childcare.

The Explorer Programmes are suitable for learners who are considering either BTEC or Apprenticeship routes. The purpose is for learners to find out if a career in early years education and childcare is one that will work for them and to plan for the future.

Aims of the course

This is an Explorer Course which gives learners the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge within the Early Years sector. Suitable for those wanting to pursue further qualifications in Childcare and other related areas.

Progression Opportunities

Learners who have taken this Explorer Programme could potentially complete the following qualifications and apprenticeships in the sector: Apprenticeship

  • Children and Young People's Workforce L2 and 3
  • Children's Learning and Development (Early Years Educator) L3
  • Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard (Option 1),
  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare

Qualifications, full-time study

  • Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development
  • Pearson BTEC Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Children's Play, Learning and Development

Further study in the Early Years sector with prospects of developing a career in the industry.

Careers in this sector are wide ranging and there are many possibilities for progression to a number of related sectors. For example, you might like working with young children in day nurseries or reception classes within schools. You may be interested in working with children with special needs in specialised units. Other areas include children's services, working with children in care situations. The possibilities are endless and provide you with the opportunity to help make a difference in children's lives, to promote learning and development that helps them grow into healthy, happy adults.
