If you are looking for office work or want to improve your career prospects but still need to develop your English language, mathematics and information technology skills, this is the right course for you. As a student on the programme you will study listening, pronunciation, reading, speaking, spelling and writing skills and learn to use your English in a range of contexts, including work settings, mathematics and information technology situations. This course also includes subjects like job searching, CV writing and interview preparation, and provides you with opportunities to participate in educational trips and listen to visiting speakers.
Aims of the course
All courses aim to prepare students to progress in their chosen field by improving their language skills. This could be for further study, improving career prospects or seeking work.
There are no units on this course.
At the end of each 18 week semester there are assessments in speaking & listening, reading and writing. The course also includes final exams in the summer term in English and maths. In addition, you will be assessed in writing on your knowledge of Office skills and practices.
Depending on the qualifications achieved during the year, you can progress to higher levels of English and mathematics, into vocational courses, or enter employment or take up an apprenticeship.
Students may progress on to higher level English classes in the college, or into vocational areas or work.
You will sit a short test in English and mathematics, and have an interview with a teacher. You should be able to demonstrate English, mathematics and information and communications technology skills at Entry 2 to do this Entry 3 course.
Students learn in the classroom for most of the time with sessions including group work, pair work and individual study. Students will be able to access college facilities such as the Learning Centre and ICT equipment. Most courses include trips outside college to galleries and museums as part of the curriculum and other enrichment and equality and diversity activities.
