The course includes subjects like job searching, CV writing, interview preparation and work experience, and provides you with opportunities to participate in educational trips and listen to visiting speakers.
Aims of the course
All courses aim to prepare students to progress in their chosen field by improving their language skills. This could be for further study, improving career prospects or seeking work.
There are no units on this course.
At the end of each 18 week semester there are assessments in speaking & listening, reading and writing. This course also includes final exams in the summer term in English and maths. You will also be assessed on preparing for interviews, CV writing and completing personal statements and application forms.
Depending on the qualifications achieved during the year, you can progress to higher levels of English and mathematics, into vocational and academic courses, work, or an apprenticeship.
Students may progress to further study in the college onto higher level English classes or into vocational areas or into work.
You will sit a short test on English and mathematics, and have an interview with a teacher to determine which level of course is right for you.
Students learn in the classroom for most of the time and sessions include group work, pair work and individual study. Students will be able to access college facilities such as the Learning Centre and ICT equipment. Most courses include trips outside college to galleries and museums as part of the curriculum and other enrichment and equality and diversity activities.
