On this course you'll gain all the expertise you need to start to make your mark in this exciting industry. The course is divided into three parts: the exploratory stage is delivered by practical workshops and short intense projects; the pathway stage explores techniques in more depth; and the confirmatory stage examines a major project. You'll try your hand at a range of practical experience activities, which might see you generating ideas with real clients, or getting stuck into professional exhibitions and work sale processes for example.

The programme includes compulsory Skills for Life subjects English and mathematics, and we also nurture your work experience capabilities, ensuring you have the skills you need to be successful in your chosen specialist area.

Assessment Method

Assessment throughout the course will be formative to support and encourage learning and provide an opportunity for feedback. Only the final unit will be graded, to allow students the best opportunity to achieve. The final unit requires you to research, organise, plan, produce and present a personal project, and your achievement in this final unit will determine the overall grade for the qualification.

As a student on the course, you will receive invaluable progression advice, including expert assistance to produce a suitable portfolio of work. This can strengthen your job application when you apply for work in design studios, fashion manufacturing, tailoring, pattern making and commissioned work.

4 GCSEs A*-C / or 9-4 (in 2017 GCSEs) Relevant Level 2 qualification with Merit or above Relevant industry experience to Level 2 or above


Based at our Southwark campus you will have access to a dedicated fashion base studio, facilities for screen-printing, industrial machines and dedicated Macs. We also encourage students to work across the disciplines with our Media and Art students to create exciting projects.
