This course will provide you with the floristry skills necessary to start your own business or pursue further learning in the commercial floristry industry.
As a student on this programme you will develop a wide range of technical floristry skills and specialist knowledge which will give you the tools required to enter the commercial floristry industry, covering a range of designs and styles for weddings, funerals, arrangements, tied bouquets, events and functions. In addition to these practical skills, the course also covers aspects of art and design, flower, foliage and plant identification, environmental factors and maintenance to be considered with plants, display, and aspects of health and safety, which are all important within the floristry industry.
Alongside this you will strengthen your speaking, listening, report writing, research, and communication skills. There will be opportunities to expand and develop a range of technical skills in numeracy, communication, information, and softer skills such as problem solving, teamwork, and time management, which is key for employability.
Your course will be enhanced by mandatory work experience, as well as the opportunity to participate in external events which have been commissioned through the commercial side of the department. This first-hand experience will provide an appreciation of the business perspective within the floristry industry. Types of commissioned events - Annual Radio Times Cover Party at Claridges hotel London, AoC Principals and MP's event @ House of commons, Nowruz event ? Afghanistan & Central Asian Association, 220 Triathlon awards, Devonport House Hotel Wedding fair and assisted with an installation at the 2016 RHS Chelsea flower show by designer florist Shane Connelly.
Work experience ? Within areas of London, depending on learner's ability to travel.
Aims of the course
To achieve this qualification you will create a portfolio of evidence, complete a range of written assignments, timed practical assessments to demonstrate your competency in each design, pass an external knowledge based examination, and complete a minimum of 40 hours' work placement.

Portfolio building, assignments, time controlled practical assessments, and a multiple choice external examination.
All our programmes are designed to equip you with everything you need to embark on a successful floristry career beginning with a Level 2 programme. From there you can progress onto a Level 3 Professional Advanced Diploma.
Our students specialise and prepare for progression to work in the floristry industry, or go on to further their study and knowledge on a Professional Advanced Diploma.

4 GCSEs D-F / or 3-2 (in 2017 GCSEs)
Relevant Level 1 qualification with Merit or above
Relevant industry experience to Level 1 or above
All practical assessments will be completed in a workshop environment, theory sessions will be delivered in a classroom setting. There will be opportunities to enhance your course experience with a range of educational industry visits and you will be able to participate in live commercial event work.
