As a student on this programme you will be provided with comprehensive knowledge of the floristry industry and will be taught skills at an advanced level.
You will continue to develop and explore traditional and modern techniques using a wide range of materials and mediums associated with the floristry industry. Knowledge gained will enhance your further learning and give you the confidence and expertise to develop a range of styles and designs more independently, and at an advanced level.
The designs you will research, explore and create will be suitable for a variety of special occasions and events. You will continue to improve your creative and intellectual ability in communication, innovation and critical evaluation, and extend your understanding of health and safety issues relating to designs in context.
In addition to these practical skills, the course also covers aspects of commercial costing, calculating wholesale to retail prices, quotations for a range of commercial floristry clients, sketching, extended flower and foliage identification, including seasonal availability and key characteristics, analysing own work, self-evaluation and reflection.
Alongside this you will strengthen your speaking, listening and communication skills. There will be opportunities to extend your skills in numeracy, literacy, information technology, and softer skills such as problem solving, teamwork, and time management, which are all key to employability.
Your course experience will be enhanced by opportunities to participate in external events which have been commissioned through the commercial side of the department. This will give you first-hand live experience of the floristry industry. Types of commissioned events - Annual Radio Times Cover Party at Claridges hotel London, AoC Principals and MP's event @ House of commons, Nowruz event ? Afghanistan & Central Asian Association, 220 Triathlon awards, Devonport House Hotel Wedding fair and assisted with an installation at the 2016 RHS Chelsea flower show by designer florist Shane Connelly.
Aims of the course
To achieve this qualification you will create a creative portfolio of design samples, showing a wide range of skills and knowledge. You will complete a range of practical designs to an advanced level, demonstrating your competency in the techniques and your understanding of the principles and elements of design. Your final projects will show comprehensive research, planning and presentation skills.
L3 Creative Floristry Certificate units All mandatory:
Unit 01 Explore commercial craft briefs (6 credits)
Unit 02 Craft techniques, materials, tools and equipment (6 credits)
Unit 03 Produce craft work in response to a commercial brief (8 credits)
Portfolio building, collating evidence for final project presentations to demonstrate competency, peer assessment, self-evaluation and reflection.
All our programmes are designed to equip you with everything you need to embark on a successful floristry career this course specifically will give you the skills required to be a senior florist/ manager.

As a qualified florist you'll be starting on a career path with lots of opportunity for progression, and a good salary in your sights ? whether you decide to work for a company or set up your own business. For example:
Florists start on around £11,000 a year and can earn £15,000 with 3 years' experience
Horticulturalists start on around £14,000 a year and can earn £18,000 with 3 years' experience

Our courses combine technical and business training, and include valuable work experience opportunities, ensuring you're ready to take your first steps in the industry.
Our students prepare to further their study and expand their knowledge on the Level 3 Certificate in Creative Floristry or a Level 3 Diploma Pathway to Commercial Floristry for management level employment.
All practical projects will be completed in a workshop environment, theory sessions will be delivered in a classroom setting. There will be opportunities to enhance your course experience with a range of educational industry visits and you will be able to participate in live commercial event work.
