One of the most rapidly-expanding areas in the hair and beauty sector, men's barbering and hairdressing requires specialist training if you are to succeed. This vocational course will enable you to develop a number of barbering skills to a high level, preparing you to work as a men's or unisex hairdresser. The course covers client consultation, men's hair cutting and facial hair cutting using a range of tools and techniques, while also developing your ability to advise and consult with clients on the type of haircut and facial hair shaping that they want and will suit them. On successful completion of the course you will achieve a VTCT accredited qualification.
Aims of the course
The aim of the course is to prepare you to work as a men's or unisex hairdresser or ? if you are already working in the hair or barbering industry ? to provide you will a formal recognised qualification.
This qualification covers the following units:
- Advise and consult with clients.
- Cut Men's hair.
- Health, safety and hygiene.
- Cut facial hair.
You will be assessed through practical assessments and four online exams throughout the course.
After this course you could progress on to a specialist qualification at level 3 relating to barbering and/or level 2 diplomas in women's or unisex hairdressing, or you may decide to go directly into employment in men's hairdressing/barbering. The course could widen your career opportunities if you're already working in women's or unisex hairdressing.
- Employment in unisex hair salon.
- Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based setting.
You can progress onto this course from a level 2 qualification in women's hairdressing and/or a successful skills test and interview. You will meet with staff to discuss if this course is suitable for you and we'll ask you to complete a free writing task to demonstrate that you have an appropriate level of English.
Practical skills are delivered by experienced industry experts using industry-recognised tools and products in our fully equipped salon. Our skilled teaching staff will utilise technology such as iPads and television viewing screens to support practical learning, enabling you to view demonstrations and close-up shots as many times as you need to during your practice. You will be able to gain realistic experience working on clients at our T'ien salon on campus.
In order to attend this course and achieve your qualification, you will be required to purchase uniform and a special kit. Further information on this will be provided at your interview.
