IELTS Tests and Courses

Overview

This course is for people who need to work on test understanding and strategies for optimising their score on the IELTS Writing Test.

You will be guided through the process of tackling a writing test, then, with the knowledge you have gained, you will attempt to take the writing test. The test will be marked and you will be given feedback on your performance, as well as targeted remedial activities by the teacher. Following that, you will have a second attempt at the practice test, and will have another round of feedback and remedial exercises.

You will receive a college certificate recognising that you completed the course.

Aims of the course

To give you a thorough knowledge of the format of the different sections of the IELTS writing test, of ways to approach each part, and of what the criteria the examiners are using to assess you, and how to meet their criteria.

Unit Breakdown

The course is taken as a whole; there are no separate units.

Assessment Method

Throughout the course, the teacher will provide detailed feedback on the work you produce in class and for homework, you will do practice tests.

Progression Opportunities

With your IELTS certification, you can progress to higher education courses and gain professional registration. You may also use it for fulfilment of visa requirements such as obtaining a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS), and for immigration and emigration.

Facilities

This is a classroom-based course. At Southwark there is a Learning Centre with materials you can use for independent study and homework.
