Overview

This Level 2 qualification is all about keeping your options open. You may have decided that you would like to work in Information Technology but you have not worked out which area will suit you best.

As such you will study a wide range of subjects which will, we hope, inspire and motivate you to become more technology aware. Not only that, you will be equipped with the knowledge to become the creators of technology products and systems, rather than just consumers of them. The units we offer will help you to make the important next-step decision ? and will support your progression to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic computing course, or to an Information Technology apprenticeship or job.

Aims of the course

The course aims to give you the opportunity to gain a broad understanding and knowledge of, and skills in, the Information Technology sector and some aspects of the creative industries (such a web development or games design).

Learners are assessed through practical assignments, nd two external examinations.

Progression Opportunities

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic computing course, or to an Information Technology apprenticeship or job.

Career Options

This course gives you the potential opportunity to enter employment within a wide range of junior job roles across the Information Technology sector and some aspects of the creative industries.

Junior job roles include: Software Engineer, Website Content Manager, Computer Animator, Help Desk Support and Graphic Designer.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs D / or 5 (in 2017 GCSEs) or Relevant Level 1 qualification with Merit or above or relevant industry experience to Level 1 or above

If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade 4 (that's the old Grade C) or above in Maths or English you will be given the opportunity to develop your skills in these subjects. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.
