Overview

On this programme you'll study all aspects of media production; how to operate video, sound and editing equipment and use it creatively, how to research, develop, set up and professionally manage a video production ? it could be a music video, a drama, an advert, a documentary. You will learn to improve your presentation and communication skills so you can promote your work as a professional. You will learn about the media industry and the business skills needed to survive and prosper in it.

Enterprise is a major factor in the course, offering students the opportunity to form themselves into production companies to promote their work as well as pitching for work with outside clients. Work experience on the course will give you a real taste of industry life.

Aims of the course

The course has been designed to get you started with a full-time creative media experience, it will provide you with an introduction to painting, drawing, 3D model making and printmaking. The knowledge and skills gained will help you to progress in further education or employment within the creative industries.

Introduction to media processes and technical skills

Introduction to design and research skills in creative media production

Introduction to professional practice in creative media production

Critical and contextual awareness

Investigating audio production and technology

Investigating visual production and technology

Investigating interactive media production and technology

Developing a creative media project.

Assessment Method

Assessment throughout the course will be formative to support and encourage learning and provide an opportunity for feedback. Only the final unit will be graded to allow students the best opportunity to achieve. The final unit require students to research, organize, plan, produce and present a personal project and the overall grade for the qualification is determined by the candidates' achievement in the final unit.

Evidence submitted for this unit is assessed and graded internally and subject to External Moderation.

Candidates can achieve a pass, merit or distinction with one opportunity to retrieve a referral

Progression Opportunities

The UAL Diploma is a one year course. Once completed, you can opt to progress onto to the Higher Level Qualification. You then have the opportunity to enter higher education or start your career in the TV and Film industry or related creative industries.

Alternatively you could apply for an apprenticeship or enter the industry directly.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs A*-C / or 9-4 (in 2017 GCSEs)

Relevant Level 2 qualification with Merit or above

Relevant industry experience to Level 2 or above

Facilities

You will have access to a dedicated base studio, facilities for green screen. We also welcome students to work across disciplines with our Art and Fashion students to create exciting projects.
