General Certificate of Secondary Education, equivalent to a level 2 qualification. This course combines biology, chemistry, physics, and scientific investigation skills.
Aims of the course
Development of scientific skills and knowledge which will enable students to build a good understanding of science.
Biology, chemistry, and physics.
100% Exam will consist of 2 Biology papers, 2 Physics papers, and 2 Chemistry papers.
Train as teachers, progress to A level science, or Level 3 diploma in applied science (medical/ forensic) or Access to Science courses.
Students can go on to pursue careers in teaching, allied professions in the medical field, and science-related industries, or on to Access to Higher Education.
16 years and over. GCSE English and maths at minimum grade C or grades 5 - 9 or equivalent and previous science study. Students with non-standard qualifications will be considered by the science team. Students will be expected to carry out preparatory reading before each lesson and also complete homework.
Laboratories and ICT labs. Students will also benefit from trips and day visits to exhibitions.
