If you are fascinated by science and how it is applied in the workplace, this course will appeal to you. Equipping you with the skills needed to work in a range of technical roles in the science industry, it includes mandatory units in science fundamentals, laboratory techniques and analytical techniques. Learners will also choose to study one of the following pathways: human science or pharmaceutical science.
Aims of the course
To enable students to develop core knowledge and scientific skills, and build an understanding the science sector.
Laboratory science, human science and pharmaceutical science.
At least three externally examined units and centre-assessed units.
Working in the science industry or within organisations that use science.
Quality control analysis; working with the forensic science service; working in a production plant laboratory carrying out analytical tests using modern instrumentation, ICT and data interpretation; or working in a hospital as a medical physics technician supporting the use of X-ray and other imaging/scanning equipment.
4 GCSEs A*-C / or 9-4 (in 2017 GCSEs)
Relevant Level 2 qualification with Merit or above
Relevant industry experience to Level 2 or above
Laboratories and ICT labs.
Students will benefit from trips and visits to exhibitions.
