WHAT OUR PREVIOUS CELTA GRADUATES SAID:
The tutors have been fantastic throughout the course on so many levels. They have been wonderful demonstrators, teachers and guides.
Everyone who I had dealings with at the college: other teaching staffs, admin staff and learning centre staff have been so helpful and supportive.
This is the most enjoyable and challenging course that I've ever done. It also makes a big difference when you have teachers as good as the ones on this course. We were warned that the workload would be high, but it really was immense.
Please note: If you succesfully completed a level three course at LSC in 2017-18 and want to progress to an HE course then you don't need to complete a UCAS application. Use the 'Apply' button to apply direct to the College.
Aims of the course
To gain essential knowledge of the principles of effective English teaching To develop a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners To have demonstrate your ability to apply your learning in a real teaching context To become ready to begin working in a variety of ESL teaching contexts around the world.
The course has five compulsory units covers the following areas:
- Unit 1: Learners and teachers and the teaching and learning context
- Unit 2: Language analysis and awareness
- Unit 3: Language Skills
- Unit 4: Planning and resources
- Unit 5: Developing teaching skills and professionalism
You are assessed through the teaching practice and the written assignments.

With an internationally recognised CELTA qualification, you will be able to work as an English language teacher in the UK or overseas.
CELTA is a practical course for people who want to become English language teachers. You do not have to have any teaching experience, but we will assess your level of English to ensure you meet the Cambridge requirements. You will be expected to commit the same number of hours per week in independent study and teaching preparation as you spend in class.
The course is made up of classroom based input sessions, where you learn about language and how to teach it; assessed teaching practice, where you put the theory into practice with a group of real language students; and independent study, including 4 assessed written assignments. You will have a mid-course tutorial with one of your tutors.
