Southwark College students showed great creativity when they took part in a three-day workshop at the Royal Academy of Engineering, hosted by Queen Mary’s University London (QMUL).

The workshop, which was organised by Ideas Foundation, gave students the opportunity to learn the art of digital storytelling, one of the most popular and effective techniques used in the marketing industry. Challenged with using storytelling to encourage young people to consider biomedical engineering as a career, the students focused on how engineers are working to decrease the number of pre-term deaths in babies. They then interviewed and filmed senior figures in biomedical engineering as well as aspiring engineers to create their digital stories. During the workshop, the students learned a range of media techniques such as creating video and photo content, including editing using Adobe Sparks software.
Digital Media Lecturer, Sharon Bertram,  commented: “The students demonstrated real creativity in coming up with a story which prompts the audience to take a different view of biomedical engineering. They worked really hard during the workshop, picking up new skills very quickly, and they should be very proud of the finished result.”
