Our Performing Arts study programmes are validated by University of the Arts (UAL) Performing and Production Arts (Drama Pathway) includes acting, dance, vocal training, devising and Theatre in Education. You can expect to be involved in at least 2 major performances each year, one of which will be your level 2 group performances.

Aims of the course

The aim of this course is to give an introduction to performance, providing you with knowledge and skills necessary for future progression within the performing arts. You will work collaboratively demonstrating imagination, creativity, dependability and self-reliance.

Unit Breakdown

Unit 1 Introduction to Performance, Unit 2 Introduction to Production, Unit 3 Communicating With an Audience, Unit 4 Staging a Performance, Unit 5 Contextual Research for Performance, Unit 6 Performance Skills and Practice, Unit 7 Production Skills and Practice, Unit 8 Personal Project and Presentation, Unit 9 Producing and Performing to an Audience. Unit 10 Producing and Performing to an Audience (Level 3) (0ptional)

Assessment Method

You will be continually assessed throughout the year, units 1-9 of the UAL qualification. Units 1-8 are graded PASS, FAIL, REFERAL, and unit 9 is graded PASS, MERIT, and DISTINCTION. Your assessment will be your performances, evaluation and reflective logbooks, video diaries, and presentations.

Progression Opportunities

Successful completion of this course can lead to study on Level 3 UAL Diploma in Performance and Production Arts.

Career Options

On competition of this course it is advised to apply for a Level 3 Qualification

What can I earn as an actor? When you're deciding what to study post-16, it's important to think about where your course will lead. As a trained actor you'll be starting on a very fulfilling and varied career path with the opportunity to earn well: Actors generally earn around £15,000 a year to start with, and £24,000 with a few years' experience ? but obviously the sky's the limit with film work, for example!

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs D-F / or 3-2 (in 2017 GCSEs) Relevant Level 1 qualification with Merit or above Relevant industry experience to Level 1 or above


Creative and performance workshops, industry workshops, enrichment activities and work experience placements, theatre trips and research visits.
