This course will introduce you to the world of modern music production.

Aims of the course

You will learn music production skills using the Logic Pro X recording & sequencing software. Lessons will include recording instruments/voice using a microphones, creating MIDI tracks with virtual instruments and using loops to create and mix a basic music track You will learn the basic setup required for a home studio.

Assessment Method

Assessment is by assignment and practical project work. There will be whole-class lecturing, one-to-one guidance and small-group work. You will have a number of projects to compete.

Successful completion of this course can lead to further study on our range of part-time music production courses.

Career Options

Skills learned on this course are essential for aspiring sound engineers and music producers. You will also get an insight to IT and using computers, which can lead a variety of employment opportunities

Entry Requirements

No prior experience necessary, but being able to use a computer and a real interest in music making would be helpful.


Our modern Music Technology suite has complete music workstations, which include Apple Macintosh Computers, Controller keyboards, and of course Apple Logic Pro X music software. In term 2 we will be using our industry standard Recording studio. Although there is some theory to learn, most of the work will be practical & hands-on. Bringing a decent pair of headphones and a USB pen key 4gb (min) would be advantageous.
